Art Lindala started making wine in the early 1980’s, trying out various home wine-making kits (to the immense enjoyment of his family and friends). Those early experiments eventually blossomed into his first “Garage Winery” on Vancouver Island, at his Nanaimo home in 1993. His passion, and his business, has been growing ever since, to its current incarnation as a state-of-the Art Micro-Winery.
In 2010, Art (and his rapidly growing collection of awards) relocated to Ladysmith in search of larger premises and a more central location so he could service Nanaimo to the north and both Chemainus and Duncan to the south. That first Ladysmith location, beside the Library, soon became another example of Art’s business outgrowing its location. In 2011, Art purchased the operation’s current location on Rocky Creek Road, where’s he’s been ever since. Art of Brewing is dedicated to quality products and services, with a focus on 100% satisfaction guaranteed or your money back – period.
Art has been a fixture of the mid- Vancouver Island wine lovers’ community since his first commercial venture, at “The Olde Nanaimo Brewery” in 2001. During this time, Art supplemented his by-then fairly extensive knowledge of wine making with formal online courses from the prestigious Munich World Brewing Academy and the renowned Siebel Institute. Striking out on his own, a few years later, Art spent a few happy years in Cedar, replacing the “Cedar Oaks Brew Works” before relocating his expanding business in 2006 to a larger operation in South Wellington in Nanaimo.
In 2008, Art entered his first competition, the WineMaker Magazine “International Amateur Wine Competition” in California. That first year he came home with three medals, and embarked on a run that saw him garner thirty five wine-making medals in six years of competitions between 2008 and 2014, ranging from California, Oregon and British Columbia on the West Coast, to Ontario and Virginia in the East.
Not content to limit himself to wine making alone, in recent years Art has diversified his talents and added beer brewing to his repertoire. Art of Brewing Ladysmith now boasts a menu of over a dozen brews, from lagers and pilsners to ales and stouts. Art also stocks what he likes to call “Patio Pops” – fruit-flavoured, wine-based beverages that are perfect for summer days on the back deck. Art loves to share his wine- and beer-making knowledge with old friends and new. Give him a call to schedule your Personal Wine/Beer Consultation today at (250) 245-0077.
